GAE Regional championships are next stop

ATLANTA – Young spellers throughout Georgia are approaching the next-to-the-last leg in the journey to crown Georgia’s 2019 spelling champion.  “The Regional Bees are just as exciting, if not more so in some cases, as the state championship,” said Charlotte Booker, president of the Georgia Association of Educators (GAE).  “The stomach butterflies will be fluttering from this point out.

“Whether representing his or her local public, home, charter, virtual or private school, every participant along the way, from each individual school, to the county, region and state, is a champion,” said Booker.  “That’s because not only does participation and simply studying for a Bee bolster spelling and reading acumen, which ultimately helps students in their normal spelling and reading, but it also teaches our children about competition and how to both win and lose graciously.  And win or lose, these are lessons they will carry with them throughout their lives.”

Attached is a list of the sites for the Region Bees.  All Region bees will take place on February 23, 2019 at 10 a.m.   The winners and runners-up from each Region Bee will vie for the state championship on March 15, 2019 at 11 a.m., at Georgia State University’s Student University Center located at 44 Courtland Street, Atlanta 30303.  The Bee will be held in the Center’s Senate Ballroom on the first floor.
