“We are here yet again mourning the loss of innocent lives taken at what should be the safest place in our communities for our children – their local public school.  The members of the Georgia Association of Educators stand with the students, educators and citizens of Parkland, Florida in the aftermath of this senseless act of violence.  We offer our heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost loved ones.  We pray that the community can come together to regain some sense of normalcy, whatever that new normal is for them because you never truly get over something of this magnitude.

While it should not take continuing tragedies such as this to act, we now hope that lawmakers see the need to keep our schools as safe as possible.  That should entail placing everything on the table that could impact the safety of our children in order to possibly prevent more tragedies such as this.”

--- GAE President Dr. Sid Chapman
