ATLANTA —Delegates to the Georgia Association of Educators (GAE) Representative Assembly held in April elected Latyshia Preston as secretary-treasurer of the organization. She was recently sworn into office on July 7 during the National Education Association’s (NEA) Annual Representative Assembly in Denver.
Preston is a local member of the Burke County Association of Educators.
Preston is a 27-year veteran public school educator and has been a member of GAE for more than 20 years. She has an ED.S. in Educational Leadership from Cambridge College.
Preston has served GAE in multiple leadership capacities, including district director, past local president, local secretary-treasurer, and committee chair.
“I believe every educator, Educational Support Professional and student deserves to be seen, valued and supported,” Preston said. “I am honored by the trust GAE members have placed in me, and I look forward to working collaboratively to elevate diverse voices and strengthen our union.”
Preston said she plans to focus on transparency, member empowerment and advocacy for public education during her tenure which is two years.
