ATLANTA — Delegates to the Georgia Association of Educators (GAE) Representative Assembly held in April elected Wendy Morgan as vice president of the organization. She was recently sworn into office on July 7 during the National Education Association’s (NEA) Annual Representative Assembly in Denver.
Morgan is a local member of the Catoosa County Education Association (CEA) and has been a member of the National Education Association, the national affiliate, since 1997, serving educators and students in both public and international schools.
Morgan serves as an art instructor, fine arts lead and coordinator for art camp and open studio fundraising initiatives in the Catoosa County school system.
In addition to serving on the GAE Board of Directors, Morgan has served as a CEA Association Representative. She said communication, collaboration and mentorship are central to her work as an educator and association leader.
“If we all do the small things, the overall system runs more smoothly,” Morgan said. “Teamwork elevates our students’ progress and membership polishes our profession. Creating a communication link between groups is vital.”
Morgan said she believes supporting future educators and developing diverse leadership within the profession are critical to the future of public education.
“It’s important that we keep the doors open for the next generation of teachers entering the profession and elevating the next group of leaders,” Morgan said. “To grow, we need a diverse group at the table.”
GAE President Wayne Huston congratulated Wendy Morgan on her election.
“Wendy has a heart for advocacy,” said Huston. “She continues to work tirelessly with stakeholders to ensure that all students have access to the highest quality education, no matter their zip code.”
Morgan’s hobbies include kayaking, swimming, stained glass art, metal smithing and traveling. Her favorite quote is, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
The Georgia Association of Educators is the pre-eminent voice for public education in Georgia, representing teachers, school support personnel, higher education faculty and staff, retired educators and aspiring educators.
