Annie Hutchinson, the awards namesake, rose from a cafeteria cook to a management position in the nutrition department of Atlanta Public Schools. Her elevation never changed her perspective that it takes all educators — certified and non-certified — to educate students. She believed that working together works so all professionals should be valued, treated fairly, and respected with the same level of enthusiasm. Because of her untiring efforts we are able to present the Annie Hutchison ESP of the Year Award to a true support professional.
Nomination form will be available in the fall.
Helping You On The Frontline
GAE is the largest member run education group in the state of Georgia, and we exist to empower and support Public Education Employees across the state. We know that our educators' working conditions are our students' learning conditions, so we ensure that our members voices are heard by lawmakers, and everyone involved in the decision-making process.
How Do We Support You?
Educational Support Professionals are a vital component to running our schools, and they must be valued, respected, and protected. GAE provides legal defense and representation, support such as grants, conferences, scholarships, and professional development, and even benefits for travel and going back to school. However, the greatest gift we can give is the gift of empowerment through organizing.
How Do We Empower You?
By belonging to GAE, you are a part of a Local, State, and National Association that advocates for public education! This allows you to get involved at all stages of the Public Education experience and make a difference. We are the largest member run Association that regularly organizes and represents public educators across the state and country, and it is vital that we include the voice of active support professionals throughout the state.
